Day 1

Our trip to Massachusetts is fully underway. Our big first major event was a flat on the trailer. I am so glad that we had the right tools and a spare. We went and bought 3 new tires at a tire place just down the road. Although we were delayed about an hour, we managed to get to Kansas City by 8 o'clock.

Here are a couple of pictures that we took.

Kansas City just before we drove through it.

Amazing how quickly it became dark when we arrived.

Finally, after many hours of driving we were able to sit down and eat.

Pretty tight quarters, but it is home.

See ya tomorrow from Abe's childhood home.

Beware of Virginia

I am probably violating some website rule by posting this picture, but since I am going through Virginia in a couple of days I thought this license plate would be a good source of fear for the kiddos.

It's Your Fault

A great example of It's Your Fault news reporting published by Yahoo News. Ben Silverman writes a story about how the evil, selfish and greedy West causes children to die.

"Allegedly, the demand for coltan prompted Rwandan military groups and western mining companies to plunder hundreds of millions of dollars worth of the rare metal, often by forcing prisoners-of-war and even children to work in the country's coltan mines."

Notice that Western Companies are directly linked with military groups. Never is it the fault of immoral governments seeking to enslave their people to make money. The Soviet Union was as pure as the wind driven snow. Bread lines? That's the West's fault too. Cuba? Castro loved his people. That is why they send messengers to us via sinking rafts. Mexico? Surely they are just trying to help our economy with affordable labor. Iraq? Don't you remember how much the people loved Saddam Hussein when they voted him into office term after term winning over 90% of the vote? Surely the northern Vietnamese would have been nicer to the southern Vietnamese if we had not tried to intervene in the advancement of Communism.

If it was not for Capitalism and Free Markets, this would surely never happen.

So what's the solution? The article doesn't say exactly. I suppose if we stop buying Play Stations the problem will just magically go away. Because you must understand, the suffering children would never be enslaved by these same "military groups" for any other purpose. You must understand it is your fault!

Dawkins Wins By Default

Albert Mohler's Blog discusses an article from the London Times believing Richard Dawkins as the most brilliant scientist alive. I just love how Creationists are constantly berated and mischaracterized by the morally neutral and objective journalists. This quote offers one example.

Dawkins says that natural selection is “the most important idea to occur to the human mind”, the slow change of species over millions of ideas disproving the religious theory of intelligent design by God.

Last I checked, natural selection of obvious to everyone. I don't know of any Biblical Creationist who denies natural selection. One well known example is the white moths disappearing during the industrial era. Soot from the smoke stacks covered the trees and exposed the white moths. The birds ate them and they were soon extinct. Black moths evolved due to the environment's change. But wait! Soon the era of black soot ended and the black moths were seen by those pesky enemies and white moths began to evolve while the black ones became extinct. (Carl Wieland blows this evolved moth idea out of the water. Read here.)

Of course I am being fecicious in using the term "evolved". The problem is equivocating terms by Dawkins. Notice that natural selection is assumed to be the cause of "slow change of species over millions of years". How do we know this? Worse yet, why should the term natural selection be defined as actually meaning micro evolution to macro evolution? We are not told. As the article goes on to say:

“It is weird in many ways that natural selection is still debated,” he says. “But it is not debated by anyone who knows anything about it.” Indeed, Dawkins refuses to share a stage with creationists. “I don’t like giving them the oxygen of respectability, the feeling that if they’re up on a platform debating with a scientist, there must be real disagreement. One side of the debate is wholly ignorant.

As one evolutionist once quipped to a Creationist in a debate, "we know evolution is true because we are here!" That is not demonstrating one's position. That is not open-mindedness. That is might makes right.

Any sharp Creationists could easily destroy Dawkins in debate. Dawkins does not believe he needs to justify his presuppositions, but with modern science and modern politics and modern academia, he doesn't have to.

Church and Politics

Yahoo News has reported that Rick Warren will be hosting a joint campaign meeting with Barak Obama and John McCain. Now I don't really have anything against a church hosting a meeting with political officials. The problem I do have is when the church looks to political officials to advance the Gospel. Although, that doesn't seem to be the case here. In fact, it may be the opposite problem of the church confusing her mission of preaching the Gospel with starting every new program under the sun to gain "P.E.A.C.E.".

In any case, these two paragraphs caught my attention.

"Warren has known each candidate prior to their run for national office. Both men recorded video messages to attendees at Saddleback's annual Global Summit on AIDS and The Church last November. Along with other national and international leaders, each has also endorsed Warren's vision of the P.E.A.C.E. Plan, a 50-year strategy to mobilize millions of local churches around the world to address five global problems: spiritual emptiness, corrupt leadership, poverty, disease and illiteracy. After four years of testing prototypes of the P.E.A.C.E. Plan in 68 countries, the P.E.A.C.E. Coalition, involving business, church and government partnerships, was launched in April.

In conjunction with the Civil Forum event, Warren will convene an interfaith meeting at the church for approximately 30 Christian, Jewish and Muslim leaders to discuss cooperation in projects for the common good of all Americans. Members of the P.E.A.C.E. Coalition Leadership Council will also fly in for weekend events."

What is interesting is the attempt to establish peace by having interfaith meetings. Is this a political peace? Is this really the role of the church? Last I checked, the mission of the church is separate from the government (I am not saying Christians should not run for office or be political officials.). Last I checked, the church's mission is to make disciples through the proclamation of the Gospel. Last I checked, the pastors of the church are to command men everywhere to repent and believe in Jesus Christ.

I guess we will just have to watch history repeat itself over and over again.

Newt Joins the Left

In Christian Apologetics, there are a few ways to defend the Christian faith. One of the most popular is called Evidential Apologetics. This form works well when you are discussing the Christian faith with someone who is seriously looking to see if Christianity is true. God has given much evidence for the Christian to use. However, when discussing with someone, who is hostile to the faith, I have found Presuppositional Apologetics of great use. It causes one to rethink their unstated objections and philosophical assumptions. If a Christian doesn't recognize this, he will often argue till he turns blue and talk past the person he is attempting to evangelize.

In the above video with Newt Gringrich, we see that in Politics, the same holds true. Throughout this entire video, Newt grants the false assumptions to the Political Left, and then attempts to explain how we could get the price of oil down.

Here is one major problem. Newt explains that there are several places in the U.S. that the government has declared illegal to drill. He explains that these places must be freed to allow for exploration and drilling. There is a major flaw in his argument. He grants to the Political Left that Global Warming is happening. He grants to the Political Left their understanding of pollution. So Newt may argue his evidential style till he is blue in the face, he will fail to lead a political movement.

Just as the Christian, who argues with a person who is hostile to Christianity, must change his apologetic approach, so Conservatives must challenge the Left. Not only must they produce the evidence for the Left's irrationality, they must demonstrate on a presuppositional level that their world-view is incoherent.

Newt has clearly abandoned the fight against the Left. He has now joined them on their turf, while wondering why they won't agree with his conclusions. In the first part of the video Newt wants to side with anti-Capitalists and attack Speculators [the new Left's bad guy], while doing the very thing he is accusing them of!!!! He sides with the Left's view of Alternative Sources and makes ridiculous claims in the video.

Until science makes real advances in technology, we must defeat the Left's presuppositions. We must defeat their feel-good policies that end up making things worse. Until we do, oil isn't coming down.

Supplying the Oil Is the Solution

So, I'm driving around and listening to AM 1030 and a campaign advertisement comes on promoting some Kansan yahoo wanting more wind power. The statement that caught me was, "We can't drill our way out of this." in reference to the high oil prices. Now most of the time that I hear this "can't drill" attitude it is usually in connection with the idea that it would take ten years to get the oil. Now, the obvious problem was that this man's policies is the reason we have been kept from drilling in the first place, but we are here now.

Then came a republican door prize in the ad. If there were only Conservatives running! The ad stated that wind power would take at least ten years before it would be cost effective. The contradiction is so obvious to those of us on the conservative side, that one must wonder what these wind lovers are thinking. I believe Global Warming is the presupposition that leads these people to thinking there is a real difference. So now we have a bad idea that won't decrease the price of gas one penny in order to make us feel all ooey gooey and environmentally safe. It gets better though. While reading Kansas State Representative Tom Sloan's article I am now being told wind energy will someday be competitive with fossil fuels. He writes,

"The cost of wind energy will ultimately determine whether or not wind power will assume a larger role in the nation's energy supply. Although public opinion polls indicate many citizens are willing to pay a higher price for renewable energy, relatively few customers actually have made that choice when presented the opportunity. My legislative efforts are focused on creating the political and economic climate in which wind energy can be cost competitive with "traditional" fuels, and, as such, attractive to utilities to meet their customers' energy needs."

Now how is this climate produced? The article doesn't say. Let me take a stab at it. We lower taxes and subsidize wind energy. We raise taxes and increase bureaucracy on fossil fuel energy. Ta Da. The new climate?! Sounds eerily similar to the burning our food nonsense.

Now keep in mind I am not against wind energy. Let's face it. The power in wind is just not there. It is also not constant. Perhaps some kind of hydro power harnessing the ocean currents would be more realistic. Perhaps Nuclear. Wind? Naaaaahhh. For example the last paragraph says,

"I am also committed to providing the political and economic conditions in which individuals can erect smaller wind turbines to meet their own energy needs and, in partnership with the "traditional utility," sell their excess power. This necessarily requires that partnerships be developed between utilities, the Legislature, and both renewable energy producers and consumers. We are getting there."

This is a complete joke. Perhaps he could have cited some evidence for this that would give me something to look into. The last time I researched into doing this I discovered the costs far exceed anything that would be gained. So all of this nice sounding political speech may have some weight for someone who has a farm like he does, it is moot for someone like myself.

If you haven't understood what I am saying, let me say it clearly. Nothing about this position will reduce the price of oil and gas. There is no miracle cure or miracle energy pill for our society. Oil is it. It's supply and demand. If we abandon the global warming hoax perpetrated by the Left, we may yet once again have a real policy that makes sense.

Jesus Is More Than the Clean Up Guy

Perhaps you may have been to the ocean and tripped on those rocks covered with barnacles. Perhaps like me, as a kid you got all scraped up playing on those rocks. Well, believe it or not western Kansas has something similar. Apparently, an ocean was here at one time. Just north of Scott City there are couple of places of fossilized beach front property.

While we were searching for rocks, that wonderful 2-year-old of mine decided he could walk down a steep slope full of clam shells. I looked up just as he started down the 6 foot hill, and it was too late. I nearly jumped down the entire slope in an attempt to catch and save the little guy, but it was too late. I saw him tumble. He literally planted his face into those shells.

I picked him up quickly and wiped out his mouth that was full of dirt. We had water and towels in the car, so I cleaned him up as best I could. He was lucky, just several scratches on is face and a few other places. It certainly is a good thing God made 2-year-olds light and flexible. They heal quickly too.

The thought came to my mind. Is Jesus really looking up and seeing people that he loves so much walking off a cliff? Does He spring into action only to be too late, so now He tries to clean up the mess? In some ways, there is a parallel between the saving work of Christ and that event. Christ certainly cleans up sinners after our fall. Yet, I think we have a poor view of Jesus if we see Him as merely the guy that tries to save but fails.

The Scripture does not describe Jesus as someone who was not paying attention and looks up only to realize He has a mess to clean up. Instead we see a Great Shepherd who sees His sheep wander from His fold. We see a Jesus going after His sheep fully equipped with all the power that God is. We see a Jesus who has absolute authority to lay His life down for His sheep. We see a Jesus who has authority to raise Himself from the dead to save His sheep perfectly.

Jesus is not dependent upon some creature for His success. He is anything but me. Where I failed miserably, Jesus saves perfectly. There is simply no comparison. I fell short, and to compare a human father's love for his children with that of God's love is almost insulting to God. Yes, you could draw some parallels between men and Christ. They are merely shadows. Jesus is the substance. He is the perfect Savior!

Why Should I Vote For McCain Again?

Here is a story about 100 conservative Christian leaders giving their support to John McCain. Now I must admit I have not been following McCain's campaign as closely as I should. I think if he is going to run for President and if he wants my vote, he ought to persuade me. He ought to be articulating why I, as a conservative, should vote for him. To be honest, I have been under the impression McCain doesn't want or need my vote.

So back to the Time/CNN story, after reading about the 100 conservatives supporting him, I noticed something interesting. Nothing in the story explains why I should vote for McCain. This is no better than Jerry Falwell signing on. I guess he has some endorsements, therefore let us all blindly follow McCain. It is as if Nike were selling me a shoe with Michael Jordon's picture on it. Nevermind the fact the shoe has no laces or a soul.

What's worse, saving the environment [I assume from the hoax of Global Warming] is being passed off as Conservativism.

More than an hour was spent listening to younger leaders tell the group that religious conservatives must be perceived "to care" about social issues and the environment to appeal to young people who are voting for the first time.

Perhaps these young leaders need to read George Carlin's perspective on the planet.

The planet has been through a lot worse than us. Been through all kinds of things worse than us. Been through earthquakes, volcanoes, plate tectonics, continental drift, solar flares, sun spots, magnetic storms, the magnetic reversal of the poles...hundreds of thousands of years of bombardment by comets and asteroids and meteors, worlwide floods, tidal waves, worldwide fires, erosion, cosmic rays, recurring ice ages...And we think some plastic bags, and some aluminum cans are going to make a difference? The planet...the planet...the planet isn't going anywhere. WE ARE!

Surrendering our freedom to Environmentalists governmental bureaucrats is foolish. What difference does it make if it the President is John McCain or Barak Obama? I just assume Liberalism be on full display when the results of such a policy come to fruition.

Here is more nothing coming from the McCain campaign on social issues.

In recent weeks, the McCain campaign has been trying to spell out clear policy differences on social issues with the Obama campaign. Last week, McCain came out in favor of a constitutional amendment in California to outlaw gay marriage, which was legalized this spring by the state Supreme Court. Though McCain opposes an amendment to the federal constitution to ban gay marriage, he has previously supported similar state constitutional amendments.
Basically, John McCain supports a position that is reminiscent of John Kerry's "I actually did vote for the $87 billion before I voted against it." The only difference is that John McCain isn't voting or leading a movement. This statement by McCain basically says, "California may pass an amendment. I'll clap my hands if they do, but I will not actually do anything myself. I am too busy trying to get the Moderates, and I don't want to offend them."

I am curious, does anybody know what John McCain stands for?

Secret Tribunals Coming Here?

If you are a Christian, imagine your church gathering together on a Sunday to hear God's Word ministered to the people. During the week you meet a man who is a homosexual, and you decide to invite him to go with you to church. During the service the pastor reads a passage from Leviticus which includes the prohibition against homosexuality. The service ends and everyone goes home.

A week later a government official comes to the pastor's door and charges him with having committed a hate crime. He is brought before a secret tribunal that pronounces him guilty. He is fined a large sum of money. He is told to publicly apologize for his hate speech. He is told he must renounce his beliefs. The pastor asks to be able to face his accuser and is told the accuser's identity is being protected. He asks for the trial to be made public and is told that would violate the entire system to protect the accuser. He asks to appeal the Tribunal's decision, but there is no system to appeal.

Does this sound like something that could only happen in the Middle Ages. Does this sound like the Inquisition? It is currently happening in Canada. Read here for the story.

A while back I wrote about homosexuality on this Blog. Apparently, if I went to Canada, I could be brought before this Tribunal and have my life destroyed. The myth that homosexuals are somehow morally neutral is all too apparent. Again, our neighbors to the north are demonstrating the myth of moral neutrality. Men are always seeking to suppress God's Law. As long as Christians are around, they must be held down as well. For Christians are a constant reminder of their (homosexuals) sin.

With the recent U.S. Court decision affirming the Second Amendment it will not be long before such "interests of the State" will overthrow our Constitutional Right to face our accuser. The Sixth Amendment states,

Right to speedy trial. Right to impartial jury. Right to be informed of the charges upon which the accused is held. Right to face accusers. Right to produce witnesses for the accused. Right to legal counsel.

Even though this is stated with total clarity please keep in mind that four Justices nearly overthrew the Second Amendment forever. With Breyer wanting some kind of test or balance for the State to regulate this Right, the obvious meaning becomes obliterated. As a judge friend of mine said to me this week, "I would not want a man with a temper to have the right to own a gun." (Is that not scary that Liberals think they have this kind of power?)

The same could easily happen with the right to face one's accuser here in the States. Do we not already do this with child protection bureaucracies? How often do we hear of children being pulled out of homes because of an anonymous tip?

Since the U.S. has already established laws that violate the Sixth Amendment, since that Canada is paving the way to Secret Tribunals, since Liberalism is anything but neutral and in fact hostile to Christianity, since homosexuals are on the war path in destroying the foundation of our country, since we are in fact witnessing a Revolution of huge proportions (whether one realizes it or not), this Fourth of July, I resolve to sit down with my family and read the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. I resolve to not only learn the basics of Constitutional Law but to teach them to my children.

While we have the freedom secured to us by law, Christians must now take every advantage to know their rights and to exercise them.
